MN Fish Print Project
In May 2026, I will begin creating a collection of Minnesota fish species prints. This will involve directly painting a fish with ink and then transferring this ink on to paper to create a life-sized, artistic reproduction of the fish (gyotaku-style printing). My goal is to make prints of as many fish species that inhabit Minnesota as possible –– native and invasive –– to use in an educational art exhibit and book.
Have a fish to share?
First, check below to see if the species you have to share is still needed. If it is, it could be a contender! It must be dead, so sadly catch-and-release is not an option to be a subject for this project. Fish need to be either fresh or frozen. As I officially begin this project in May, I will start with a focus on the Twin Cities area.
Email me at mnfishprintproject@gmail.com and let me know some details about the fish, where you are located, what your ideal printing option is (see options below) and anything else you’d like to share. I’ll reply back with thoughts about coordinating a printing time.
There are a few options for printing: if you’d like to keep the fish, option 1 is to have me come to you to set up and print, option 2 is have me pick up the fish for me to print at home and then return at a later date, or option 3 is if you aren’t interested in keeping the fish, I can pick it up and be done with it!
